The Star of Hope
“Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” -Mt. 2:2
As we have been preparing our hearts during this time of Advent, we have been struck by the timing of the 2020 Christmas star.
By now you have probably heard about how Jupiter and Saturn were closer than they have been in over 700 years. Whether this is identical or not, to what the Wise Men saw around the time of Jesus birth, one fact remains: God planned and orchestrated all the events for the coming of Jesus to earth well in advance.
Think about what it means if light travels 186,282 miles an hour. This would imply that the signs in the sky that the Wise Men followed over 2000 years ago were planned by God before the foundation of the earth. Following that same line of thinking, the celestial masterpiece that just took place, was also planned by God before time began as a reminder to us of God’s control over the universe.
God’s well thought out plan for the redemption of mankind, brings us to fall on our knees in worship of the same King who the Wise Men sought. It also creates in us a longing for the hope that is to come when Jesus returns once again to be Immanuel, God with us.
So, as we step into 2021, as our hearts continue to long for the hope that only Jesus can bring, remember that God truly is in control even when the world around us seems out of control.
Merry Christmas!
